Romeoville, Ill. - The Wayne State women's tennis team (20-7) could not quite finish the spring season perfect as the Warriors fell to Lewis, 5-4, Friday afternoon. The Flyers snapped the Warriors' 13-match winning streak and WSU ended the spring season, 11-1.
Wayne State was without the services of seniors Amanda Pressotto (Trenton, Mich/Trenton) and Colette Cabot (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport), the #1 and #2 singles players, respectively.
Lewis won the first three singles matches as Stephanie Van Tuyl (Riverview, Mich./Gabriel Richard) (#4) and Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich./Taylor Truman) (#5) were the only singles victors for WSU.
Wayne State had wins from the number one team of Dee Mays (Detroit, Mich./Utica) and Steph Nicolson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover) and the number two duo of Meghan Luzod (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero) and Bhatt were victorious.
Wayne State ended the regular season with a 20-7 record. The Warriors will compete at the NCAA Regional at campus sites on May 4-5. The NCAA Championship, set for May 9-12 at Altamote Springs, Fla., consist of the top eight teams in each region. Currently, Wayne State is ranked seventh in the Great Lakes region.
