Houghton, Mich. - Michigan Tech sent Wayne State to its second straight loss after defeating the Warriors, 7-2 in Houghton, Mich. It was the Warriors' second straight loss after starting the season 3-0. WSU is now 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
Wayne State only won two out of six singles matches and was shut out in doubles play. Senior Dee Mays (Detroit, Mich./Utica) won by retirement after leading the first set, 2-1, in number three singles. Mays is now 5-0 in the season, defeating all her opponents in straight sets. Sophomore Sargam Bhatt defeated her counterpart, 6-4, 6-1, in number six singles.
The Warriors will now prepare for the ITA Regionals in Midland, Mich. which will take place Thursday through Saturday, September 14-16.
