Midland, Mich. - Seniors Dee Mays (Detroit, Mich./Utica) and Amanda Pressotto (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) won their opening rounds to move into round three after the first day of the ITA Regionals, hosted by Northwood University.
Round three play begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Mays defeated Chelsea Downing of Mercyhurst 6-2, 6-0 and Silvia Oliveros of Michigan Tech by the same score. She will square off against Khrystsina Tryboi of Drury tomorrow in round three.
Pressotto beat Ida Kuruvilla of Rockhurst 6-1, 6-1 in the first round and Jenna Killips of Grand Valley 7-5, 6-4 in the second. She will face Mouna Sabri of Drury tomorrow.
Senior Steph Nicolson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Andover) defeated Whitney Schoep of Michigan Tech 6-2, 6-1, but lost to Marrisa Muchow of Ferris State 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (7) in the second round.
Freshman Colette Cabot (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) lost in the first round to Lindsey Grimmer of Grand Valley 7-5, 6-2.
Both doubles teams lost in the first round. The team of Mays and Nicolson lost to the Drury team of Khrystsina Tryboi and Mouna Sabri 8-1, while the team of Cabot and Pressotto lost to the Indianapolis team of Ashley Liles and Lindsey Fischer 9-7.
