Indianapolis, Ind. - Five members of the Wayne State women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Great Lakes Regional hosted by the University of Indianapolis. Freshmen Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) had a successful colligate debut and led the way for the Warriors advancing to the round of 16 in the 64 player singles draw.

Gill defeated Clare Kessler of Lewis University, 6-0, 6-0, in the first round, upset No. 11 seed Laura Phillipp of host Indianapolis University, 6-4, 6-1 in the round of 32 before falling 6-4, 4-6(10-5ST) to No. 2 seed Mouna Sabri of Drury in the round of 16.

Freshman Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) fell 7-6(0), 6-1, in the first round to Silvia Oliveros of Michigan Tech while freshman Milena Vuksanovic (Pancevo, Serbia/Uros Predic Secondary School) fell in round one, 6-2, 6-2, to Stephanie Isaacs of Northern Kentucky. Freshman Jennifer Bradford (Detroit, Mich./Mumford) also fell in the first round to Thu Ha Mai of Drury, 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles action, the tandem of Gill and Vuksanovic defeated Michelle Schirmann and Emil Okerson of Northern Kentucky, 8-6, before falling to No. 7 seed Audrey Koopsen and McCall Monte of Grand Valley State, 8-2.

Bradford and junior Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich.-Taylor Truman) knocked off Katie Jo Clagg and Jennie LaBonte of Southern Indiana, 8-2, before losing to No. 2 seed Mouna Sabri and Khrystsina Tryboi of Drury, 8-2.

The Warriors begin conference play with a 2 p.m. home dual match against Saginaw Valley State Friday Sept. 21.
