Allendale, Mich. - The Wayne State women's tennis team had its two-match win streak snapped as the Warriors dropped an 8-1 conference dual match to Grand Valley State at the MVP Sportsplex. WSU falls to 4-5 (3-5 GLIAC) while GVSU improves to 8-1 (7-1 GLIAC).
WSU fell behind early and were swept 3-0 in doubles play.
In singles play, the lone bright spot came from freshman Sharon Gill (Windsor, Ont./Academie Ste. Cecile) who dispatched Jenna Killips 6-1, 7-5, at No. 1 to give Wayne State its only point of the match. Freshman Deby Correa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Padre Eustaquio) lost a hard fought three-set match to Darylann Trout, 3-6, 7-5, 10-8, at the No. 5 singles position.
The Warriors continue conference play with a 10:00 a.m. home dual match against Ferris State Saturday, Oct. 20.
