Midland, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's tennis squad advanced to Saturday's fifth-place match with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Michigan Tech in a second round match on Friday.
The Warriors led 2-1 after doubles which included an emotional tiebreaker win at first doubles where Steph Nicolson and Dee Mays teamed for a 9-8 triumph (7-4 in the tiebreaker). Olga Petrovic and Sargam Bhatt were 8-6 winners at third doubles.
The Huskies claimed three of the first five singles matches to be completed to even the match at four victories apiece. Earning wins for WSU were Bhatt at No. 5 and Petrovic at No. 6.
Junior Amanda Pressotto was victorious, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles in the decisive match to give WSU the team victory.
No. 6 seeded Wayne State will play No. 5 seeded Mercyhurst in the fifth-place match starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Midland Tennis Center.
