Midland, Mich. - Wayne State defeated Michigan Tech 5-4 in the losers bracket of the GLIAC Tournament on Friday afternoon in Midland. With the win, the Warriors will take on Saginaw Valley State in the fifth-place match on Saturday at 10:00 a.m., while the Huskies will battle Mercyhurst in the seventh-place match the same day and time.

Michigan Tech won #1 through #3 singles, but the Warriors battled back and won the next three singles matches en route to the victory. The difference in the match was doubles play, as the Warriors won two of three. The three Warrior wins were Dee Mays (Detroit, Mich./Utica), who defeated Samantha Jang-Stewart, 6-2, 6-1, in #3 singles, Meghan Luzod (Royal Oak, Mich./Dondero), who defeated Whitney Shoep 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 and Sargam Bhatt (Canton, Mich./Taylor Truman) won #6 singles as she beat Heather Neff 6-4, 6-1.

The Warriors took two of the three doubles matches. The #2 doubles team of Colette Cabot (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport) and Amanda Pressotto (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) defeated Jang-Stewart and Monika Malinska, 8-6. The #3 team of Bhatt and Luzod defeated Neff and Schoep by the same score.
