For the second straight year, the Wayne State women's tennis team (13-9) will compete at the NCAA Division II Team Championships. The Warriors will battle GLIAC rival Grand Valley State (21-8) in the opening round on Friday, May 5, at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.
The winner will advance to face either Ferris State (10-5) or Drury University (19-3), the host institution for the first and second rounds of regional action, on Saturday, May 6. All matches in the round of 16 and beyond will be held in Kansas City, Mo., from May 10-13.
The Warriors are 1-2 against the Lakers this season. WSU played its first match of the fall at GVSU and fell, 8-1, on Sept. 2. These two squads met in the GLIAC Tournament on Oct. 21, with Grand Valley blanking Wayne State, 5-0. WSU won the third match, 7-2, at Grand Valley on March 26.
