Wayne State University women's tennis coach Sheila Snyder, who will embark on her 20th year at the helm of the Warrior program, has announced her fall schedule. Seven of WSU's 11 fall matches will be at the WSU Tennis Courts located just north of the Matthaei.
Snyder has led WSU to 160 wins in her tenure including a school record 20 during the 2006-07 campaign.
This year's squad has seven returning letterwinners but just two upperclassmen in senior Sargam Bhatt and junior Meghan Luzod.
The 2008 season commences on September 6th with a home non-league match against Division I Valparaiso. The Crusaders had a 2-17 mark in 2007-08 and will play the following day at Oakland University.
The Warriors start conference play the next weekend with a pair of home matches. WSU battles Ashland on Friday (Sept. 12 at 3 pm) and GLIAC newcomer Tiffin on Saturday (Sept. 13 at 11 am). The Eagles were third in the 2007 GLIAC regular season before placing seventh at the league tournament. The Dragons compiled a 9-8 mark last year but suffered an 8-1 setback to WSU.
WSU will participate in the ITA Great Lakes Regional the weekend of Sept. 19-20 before a mid-week match at Northwood on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
Wayne State concludes September with a road match at Saginaw Valley on Sept. 26, and a home non-conference match vs. Oakland on Sept. 29.
The first weekend of October has the Warriors making the U.P. trek visiting Lake Superior on Friday, Oct. 3 and Michigan Tech on Saturday, Oct. 4.
WSU wraps-up the fall regular-season with three consecutive home matches vs. Ferris State (Oct. 10), Grand Valley (Oct. 11) and Findlay (Oct. 15).
The GLIAC tournament will be held on Oct. 25-26 at the Midland Tennis Center.
Three of the last four years, WSU has qualified for the NCAA tournament.
