PENSACOLA, Fla. - Wayne State's volleyball team (0-1) opened the 2004 campaign and Ernie Gilbert era with a 3-0 loss to 13th-ranked Central Missouri State (2-0) at the West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational. The Warriors battled tough in the first game, but lost 30-21, then fell 30-12 and 30-17 in the final two sets. The Warriors had solid performances from a pair of newcomers as junior setter Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich./ Kal. Valley C.C.) had 17 assists and transfer Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich./ GVSU) led the squad with eight kills. Joris also had a team-high two block solos. Junior libero Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont./Cedarbrae) recorded a team-best 10 digs while senior Leslie Coxon (Mason, Mich./Minn. State) added nine digs. WSU continues action tonight against West Alabama.
