GOLDEN, Colo. - The Warrior volleyball squad went to the wire for the second straight match of the day at the Clash in the Foothills tournament and came out on top with a 3-2 (30-27, 30-20, 23-30, 18-30, 15-9) victory over Colorado School of Mines on Friday, August 29. Both teams are now 1-1 on the young season.

Wayne State took a 2-0 lead as it recorded 32 kills in the first two games with a .276 hitting percentage. During the next two games, WSU struggled and had a negative percentage with only 19 kills. In the deciding frame, the Warriors jumped out to a 7-2 advantage and went on to win 15-9.

For the second match in a row, junior Toni Purgatori (Yale, Mich./Lake-Sumter C.C.) led the way with a match-high 19 kills along with her 10 digs. Senior BreAnne Detrick (Lambertville, Mich./Owens C.C.) had a career-high with 20 digs and sophomore Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont./Cedarbrae) had her first career double-double with 16 digs and 11 kills.

Two other Warriors tallied double-digits in digs, Rebecca Hague (Leamington, Ont.) (17) and Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) (11). Hague also had 44 assists on the night.

The Oredigger freshman Amanda Rebol registered a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs.

Wayne State will face Colorado Christian Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
