PENSACOLA, Fla. - The WSU volleyball squad wrapped up play at the West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational with a 3-1 loss to Mesa State on Saturday night to even its record at 2-2 to begin the season. The Warriors lost game one 30-28 before defeating the Mavericks 30-27 in the second game, but MSU captured the final two sets, 30-27 and 30-24. Junior outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) recorded her second double-double in a row with a team-best 21 kills and 13 digs. Joining the double-double club was setter Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich./Kal. Valley C.C.) who had a season-high 49 assists and 13 digs as well. Junior libero Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont./Cedarbrae) set a new career high with 31 digs. Redshirt junior Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich./GVSU), who totaled 48 kills and 30 blocks over the weekend, was named to the all-tournament team as a middle blocker. The Warriors out-hit Mesa State (1-4) in the first three games, but hit just .038 in the final game. Wayne State will face Lees-McCrae College at the Capital City Classic in Charleston, W.Va. on Sept. 10.
