ALLENDALE, Mich. - The 13th-ranked North Alabama volleyball squad defeated WSU 3-0 (30-19, 30-23, 30-13) on Saturday, Sept. 6 in the Warriors' final match of the Days Inn Classic, hosted by Grand Valley State. Wayne State finished the tournament 2-2 and are now 4-4 on the year.
For the third match in a row, sophomore outside hitter Jeana Wiehl (Portage, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) recorded a hitting percentage above .400 with eight kills and one error in 14 total attacks for a .500 percentage.
Sophomore outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) led the Warriors with nine kills. UNA's Vana Ninova had a match-high 16 of the Lions' 53 kills.
Senior co-captain BreAnne Detrick (Lambertville, Mich./Owens C.C.) had a team-high eight digs while the other co-captain setter Rebecca Hague (Leamington, Ont.) tallied 26 assists for a total of 160 over the weekend and brought her average up to 10.65 assists per game on the season.
The Warriors are off the next 10 days before opening Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play at home against South Division rival Hillsdale College on Sept. 16 at 7:00 p.m.
