FINDLAY, Ohio - In its third match at the TownePlace Suites Classic, the Wayne State volleyball team (4-3) fell to undefeated California (Pa.), 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at the University of Findlay.
Three of the four sets were decided by three points or less. After CUP took the first set, 25-23, Wayne State rebounded to win the second by an identical score. The Vulcans (8-0) went on to take the next two, however, 25-15 and 25-22 to win the match.
The Warrior attack was led by Lauren Mallast (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) and Sarha Gosselin (Harrison Twp., Mich./Warren Lincoln), who posted kill totals of 13 and 11, respectively.
Kim Gear (Benton Harbor, Mich./Watervliet) had four kills and seven blocks, while Mayssa Bazzi (Dearborn, Mich.) collected 12 digs and five service aces.
Wayne State will battle former league foe Gannon at 3:00 p.m. ET.
