CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Wayne State beat Lenoir-Rhyne College, 3-1, in the Warriors' final match of the Capital City Classic in Charleston, W.Va., Saturday afternoon. WSU finished the tournament with a 3-1 record and comes home with a overall record of 5-3 entering the first week of GLIAC competition.

WSU trailed in the first and second games, but came back to win those 30-27 and 30-28 before falling in the third (28-30) and taking the fourth game 30-24.

The Warriors played tough defense as junior libero Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont./Cedarbrae) recorded a career-high 35 digs in the match. WSU also had four solo blocks and 22 block assists against the Bears.

Junior outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) had her fifth double-double of the season with 15 kills and 15 digs to go along with four aces. Setter Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich./Kal. Valley C.C.) also a rare a triple-double with season-bests in assists (50) and kills (10) as well as 10 digs.

Middle blocker Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich./GVSU) led the team with 16 kills and eight total blocks. Senior Leslie Coxon (Mason, Mich./Minn. State) added 11 digs to help out on the defensive end.

Wayne State travels to Hillsdale College in the GLIAC opener on Tuesday, Sept. 14.
