Detroit - The WSU Volleyball team dropped a four-game match to Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Hillsdale College, 3-1 (29-31, 31-29, 30-23, 30-22), Tuesday, September 16 in both school's league opener.
Game one saw a fierce comeback from the Warriors who scored seven straight points with sophomore Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont./Cedarbrae) serving for the 31-29 victory.
The second stanza was tight throughout. The score was tied at 27, 28 and 29 until the Chargers earned the next two points for the win.
HC (9-6, 1-0 GLIAC) stayed steady for the final two games as WSU struggled hitting.
Sophomore outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) led all hitters with her season-high 18 kills to go along with her 11 digs for her
Freshman defensive specialist Kristi Pieper (Roseville, Mich./Fraser) recorded a career-high 16 digs. Senior setter Rebecca Hague (Leamington, Ont.) tallied 43 assists on the night.
The Warriors, 4-5 overall and 0-1 GLIAC, travel to Erie, Pa., to face Gannon (Friday) and Mercyhurst (Saturday) in more GLIAC action.
