Erie, Pa. - The Wayne State University Volleyball team lost a five-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Gannon University, 3-2 (30-17, 24-30, 22-30, 30-14, 15-9), on September 19.
The Warriors lost game one as the Lady Knights had 16 kills and only two errors. WSU rebounded for victories in games two and three as the squad recorded 17 and 16 kills, respectively.
The hosts won the final two games to improve to 12-0 overall and 2-0 in the league. Wayne State falls to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the GLIAC.
Sophomore outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) led all WSU hitters with her season-high 20 kills. Classmate Jeana Wiehl (Portage, Mich./Kalamazoo Central) had 12 kills and a team-best .233 hitting percentage.
Senior co-captain BreAnne Detrick (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford/Owens C.C.) recorded a match-high 35 digs. Senior setter Rebecca Hague (Leamington, Ont.) tallied 35 assists on the night.
The Warriors continue their tour of Erie, Pa., with a Saturday conference match at Mercyhurst.
