DETROIT, Mich. - Playing its first of a three-match homestand, the Wayne State volleyball team (1-12, 1-7 GLIAC) was defeated, 3-0, by conference foe Lake Superior State on Thursday evening at the Matthaei.

LSSU nearly led wire-to-wire in the first game, taking it by a score of 30-27.

Game two began favorably for the Warriors, as consecutive service aces by Michelle Bittner (Hamtramck, Mich./Regina) aided WSU in gaining an early 4-0 lead, which the Warriors expanded to 8-3. Lake Superior pulled within one to 16-15, and proceeded to win 15 of the next 20 points for a 30-21 victory.

Wayne State trailed for most of the third game but managed to stay within two points early on before LSSU went ahead 25-19. Kayla Clysdale (Kalamazoo, Mich./Central) came through with two service aces to keep WSU's hopes alive and pull the Warriors to within five (28-23), but the Lakers were able to finish off the game, 30-23, and the match.

Bittner led the Warrior defensive effort with 11 digs, while Miranda Robison (Coldwater, Mich.) had a team-high 13 kills. Clysdale had six kills, as did Karri Kuczajda (Waterford, Mich./Chelsea), who had an errorless game and a .429 attack percentage.

Wayne State has home GLIAC matches tomorrow against Northern Michigan (7:00 p.m.) and Saturday against Michigan Tech (4:00 p.m.).
