ASHLAND, Ohio - The Warrior volleyball team (8-6, 3-3 GLIAC) dropped a South Division match-up at Ashland (11-3, 4-2 GLIAC) on Thursday night by the score of 3-1 (30-19, 30-25, 26-30, 30-11). WSU was hampered by hitting errors and hit just .096 for the match, compared to Ashland's percentage of .200.
Junior outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) led the Warriors with 13 kills. She also recorded 17 digs to notch her fifth consecutive double-double.
Middle blocker Sofi Berczely (Buenos Aires, Argentina) recorded a season-best 10 kills and added six digs and four block assists. The Warriors managed to out-block AU (12-9) as a team thanks to Elisa Joris ' (Walled Lake, Mich./Western) eight block assists. Wayne State has won the blocking battle in every match this season except against Indiana (Pa.) (10-8).
Other team leaders for WSU were setter Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich./KVCC) with 42 assists and libero Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont./Cedarbrae) with 25 digs.
Wayne State will stay in Ohio for another divisional contest at Findlay Friday night at 7 pm.
