HOUGHTON, Mich. - WSU's volleyball team evened its Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record at 4-4 with a 3-1 win at Michigan Tech Saturday afternoon by the scores of 30-22, 30-24, 22-30, 30-26. The Warriors improved their overall record to 12-4, and have now won four of their last five matches.

Wayne State had just four errors in each of the first two games and hit the ball well, including a .378 hitting percentage in game two.

After a little hiccup in the third game, the Warriors came back to take game four thanks to three less hitting errors. For the match, they outhit Tech, .224 to .170.

Although the Huskies (7-10, 3-5 GLIAC) had 11 more kills, the Warriors used serving and blocking to their advantage. " We served pretty well and blocked even better," said head coach Ernie Gilbert, who is undefeated against MTU in two seasons.

WSU total 10 aces as Tech had 12 service errors. The Warriors also out-blocked the Huskies, 12-9, including a match-high seven block assists by junior Nicole Jackson (Lansing, Mich.).

Three Warriors reached double digits in kills led by senior Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich.) who had 16. Senior Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) added 13 as junior Kristen Buter (Muskegon, Mich.) had 11. Buter also recorded a team-best 17 digs for her first double-double in the Green & Gold.

WSU concludes its weekend U.P. trip at Lake Superior State Sunday at 1 p.m.
