SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - Wayne State remained undefeated on the road with an important 3-1 win (30-21, 26-30, 30-27, 30-24) at Lake Superior State in GLIAC volleyball action Sunday afternoon. The "Road Warriors," as they affectionately refer to themselves, improved to 12-0 away from Detroit while earning valuable positioning in the league standings.

"It shows great character to do this on what was suppose to be a three-match trip to the U.P.," said head coach Ernie Gilbert. "It wasn't always pretty, but I couldn't be prouder of the way the team played."

WSU (13-4, 5-4 GLIAC) raced away with game one by recording a match-best .261 hitting percentage. After dropping the second game with just 10 kills, the Warriors forced the Lakers (6-16, 3-6 GLIAC) into 24 errors in the final two games to earn the victory.

Senior middle blocker Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich.) led all players with a career-best 20 digs. She added 17 kills, seven blocks and two aces for a complete overall game.

Outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) had a match-high .351 attack percentage on 15 kills and two errors in 37 attempts. She added 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.

Also with the hot hand for WSU were setter Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich.) with nine kills, one error (.320) and Nicole Jackson (Lansing, Mich.) with seven kills, one error (.316).

The Warriors out-blocked LSSU, 16.0-9.0, led by sophomore Jordan Peek (Birch Run, Mich.) who had two solo and six block assists.

WSU returns home for Homecoming weekend to host Grand Valley State (Oct. 14) and Ferris State (Oct. 15).
