DETROIT, Mich. - The fourth-ranked Hillsdale Chargers kept their undefeated season in tact, shutting out Wayne State, 3-0, in GLIAC volleyball action on Senior Night at the Matthaei.

The Chargers took the match by scores of 30-18, 30-22, and 30-16. Wayne State falls to 1-14 in the GLIAC and 1-19 overall.

Game one was all Hillsdale, as they led by as many as 11 points. Wayne State tried to close the gap, taking four straight points to narrow the deficit to 23-16, but Hillsdale grabbed seven of the final nine points to seal the 30-18 win in the opening game.

The Warriors kept the score much tighter in game two, as they came out of a timeout nabbing four of the next six points to put the score at 24-21 in favor of the Chargers. Hillsdale again made a late surge, however, and went on a 6-1 run to win the game, 30-22.

The two teams passed the lead back and forth early in the third game, but with the score 11-10 Hillsdale, the Chargers took four straight points to force the Warriors to call a timeout. Hillsdale's momentum could not be interrupted, though, and the Chargers cruised to a 30-16 win and their 25th victory of the season.

Redshirt senior Kristi Pieper (Roseville, Mich./Fraser) led all players with 18 digs, and Miranda Robison (Coldwater, Mich.) recorded a team-high nine kills along with seven digs. Freshman Meg Leone (Troy, Mich.) had 28 assists, a match-high, as well as six digs.

Wayne State will play an exhibition match at Macomb Community College on Wednesday, Oct. 25, before closing out the season at Gannon on Friday and Mercyhurst on Saturday.


Prior to the match, the four senior members of the 2006 Wayne State volleyball team were recognized for their contributions to the program.
