ERIE, Pa. - Concluding the 2006 season, the Wayne State volleyball team fell, 3-1, at Mercyhurst College on Saturday afternoon.

Wayne State's final overall record is 1-21, with a 1-16 mark in the GLIAC. Mercyhurst improves to 7-18 overall and 2-15 in the conference.

The Lakers took the first game in convincing fashion, 30-21, but the Warriors tied the score at one with a 30-25 victory in game two. Mercyhurst swept the last two games (30-26, 30-24), however, to take the match.

Kristi Pieper (Roseville, Mich./Fraser) set a career-high with 41 digs, and Miranda Robison (Coldwater, Mich.) recorded her fourth double-double in the last five matches with 12 kills and 23 digs. Mary Leverentz (Three Rivers, Mich.) had a season-high 13 kills.

Karri Kuczajda (Waterford, Mich./Chelsea) had five blocks (two solo, three assists), while Meg Leone (Troy, Mich.) and Kristen Buter (Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) each had errorless games and posted five and four kills, respectively. Leone also contributed 36 assists.

The afternoon marked the final match for four Wayne State seniors - Michelle Bittner, Kristen Buter, Kristi Pieper, and Holly Soldenski.
