DETROIT - The Warrior volleyball team lost 3-0 in a GLIAC showdown with South Division-leading Ashland Friday night at the Matthaei Center in Detroit. The Eagles are now 21-4 overall and 10-3 in the conference while WSU falls below .500 at 11-12, 6-9.

Wayne State started the match with a 4-2 lead in game one off block assists by Sofi Berczely (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Kelita Sinclair (Caledon, Ont.). Ashland went on to lead by as many as five (22-17) before the Warriors closed within one on another block assist combination by Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich.) and Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich./Western). But, in the end, AU pulled away for the win.

The Warriors struggled out of the gate in the last two games and couldn't recover as AU hit .244 and. 214 in game two and three, respectively.

WSU did outblock the Eagles, 8-6, as Joris continued her dominance at the net with five block assists and Royer added four along her 22 assist total.

Berczely had six of her team-high 10 kills in the first game.

The Warriors host Findlay Saturday at 1:00 pm.
