DETROIT - The Warrior squad took game one against Findlay, but lost the next three games for a 3-1 (26-30, 30-27, 30-21, 30-28) loss in GLIAC volleyball action Saturday afternoon at the Matthaei Center. The Oilers improve to 20-7 overall and 9-6 GLIAC as WSU falls to 11-13, 6-10.

Wayne State and Findlay were tied six times in the first 20 points of game one. The Warriors started to pull away as middle blocker Sofi Berczely (Buenos Aires, Argentina) pounded down a kill and teamed with Elisa Joris (Walled Lake, Mich./GVSU) for a block to give WSU a 20-15 lead. A kill and service aces by Joris put the Warriors in position for the game one victory.

The Oilers led game two, 7-4, before back-to-back kills by Joris tied the game at 12. The score was knotted again at 22 as Berczely and Kelita Sinclair (Caledon, Ont./Turner Fenton) combined on a block. UF went on a 4-1 run after that play and continued on to tie the match at one game apiece.

Findlay took a 2-1 advantage as it went on an 11-3 rally in game three to run away with the 30-21 win.

The Warriors battled tough in the final game with ties at 15, 16, 17, 18, 21 and 22. Findlay gained a three-point cushion before kills by Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and Joris brought WSU within one at 29-28. But UF came away with the win.

Smolen (19 kills, 15 digs), Berczely (10, 11) and Joris (20, 10) all recorded double-doubles in the match.

Sei Hee Hwang (Toronto, Ont.) recorded her second 40-plus dig performance of the season with a match-best 42 digs. It was also the highest dig total in a four-game match this year. Setter Kerri Royer (Lawton, Mich./KVCC) passed out 47 assists on the day.
