ASHLAND, Ohio-- - Senior Jaime Banners' team-high 16 kills wasn't enough for the WSU volleyball team to beat Ashland on Saturday (Sept. 28) as the Eagles won the crucial GLIAC South match, 3-1.
The teams were evenly matched with two of the four games needing extra points (31-29, 20-30, 32-30, 30-23) and the hitting percentages close at .245-.242, in favor of the Eagles.
Banners, a middle blocker, recorded a .444 hitting percentage, but Ashland's Leigh Greenfelder tallied a game-high 22 kills. That mark is the most the Warriors have allowed all year.
Allison Jurasek and Megan Smolen put up a valiant effort with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Sophomore BreAnne Detrick helped on the defense with a team-high 14 digs in three games.
The two teams are now in a tie for fourth in the division at 2-3. The Warriors finally return home on Friday, Oct. 4 against Mercyhurst at 7 p.m.
