ASHLAND, Ohio - The Warrior volleyball team had a bad trick played on it with a 3-0 Halloween night loss at Ashland on Friday. The Eagles won the match by a total of nine points with game scores of 30-28, 30-27, 30-26. WSU is now 8-15 overall and 4-11 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Ashland is 6-20, 2-12. With the WSU loss and Michigan Tech's win over Lake Superior State, the Warriors were eliminated from earning a spot in the league tournament.
Sophomore outside hitter Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) recorded her 14th double-double of the season with team-highs in kills (16) and digs (13).
Also tallying double-digits in digs was senior BreAnne Detrick (Lambertville, Mich./Owens C.C.) with 12 digs. Classmate Rebecca Hague (Leamington, Ont.) gave out 31 assists on the night.
Sophomore middle blocker Kelita Sinclair (Caledon, Ont./Turner Fenton) and redshirt sophomore Sofi Berczely (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Goethe Schule) combined for five of WSU's six block assists.
The Eagles' Carrie Ritchie led all players with 32 kills and 16 digs.
The Warriors continue they Ohio trip with a Saturday afternoon match at Findlay.
