DETROIT - WSU head volleyball coach Ernie Gilbert has announced the signing of his first player to a National Letter of Intent. Tarin Kubiak (Battle Creek, Mich.) will join the Warriors for the 2005 season.
"We at Wayne State University are truly excited with Tarin's signing to play volleyball with us. She is highly motivated and very eager to learn and improve," said Gilbert. "Tarin and our players have formed the foundation of a wonderful relationship that will help us all succeed athletically and academically."
A four-year honor student, Kubiak will graduate this spring from Battle Creek Central. She recorded five of the top 20 individual match assist performances in the MHSAA record book, including a career-high 51 assists against Holt (3/5/04). Her 4,102 career assists is second all-time in MHSAA.
Kubiak, who served as team captain her final two seasons in both volleyball and tennis, was named all-city, all-conference and all-region during junior and senior seasons. Central compiled a 70-20-6 record her final two years in volleyball.
"Tarin will help us move closer to our goal of the GLIAC Championship. She has all the physical tools you like to see in a setter, size, mobility, and technique," added Gilbert. "She has the emotional make up needed to "run the show" from the setters spot. She has had tremendous coaching in her high school and club careers which has prepared her to take this next step in her athletic development."
