Warriors Remain Among Top Blocking Squads

DETROIT - Wayne State University junior Lauren Mallast (Chesterfield, Mich./Anchor Bay) continues to lead the nation in blocks through last weekend's matches, while the Warriors as a team rank fifth in blocking among all Division II volleyball programs.

Mallast has a 1.44 blocks/set average, holding a slight edge over fellow GLIAC student-athlete Jen Jung of Michigan Tech (1.38). Wayne State is averaging 2.48 blocks/set as a team, just off the pace set by the Huskies (2.80).

Other Warriors in the top 50 individually are Katy Westenberg (Milford, Mich.) and Sarha Gosselin (Harrison Twp., Mich./Warren Lincoln), who rank 48th in assists (9.71 A/S) and kills (3.53 K/S), respectively.

Wayne State, which was slotted 10th in the most recent NCAA regional rankings released Oct. 15, will travel to Northwood on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. league match.
