BAY CITY, Mich. - Two members of the WSU volleyball squad were honored by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference office today (Nov. 13). Sophomore Megan Smolen (Grosse Ile, Mich.) was named to the All-GLIAC Second Team as senior Rebecca Hague (Leamington, Ont.) earned All-GLIAC Honorable Mention status.
Smolen, an outside hitter, was the Warriors' leading hitter with 354 total kills in 93 games. Her 3.77 kills per game ranked her fifth among GLIAC hitters. She recorded her career-high of 23 kills on four different occasions. Smolen also had 15 double-doubles on the year as she averaged 3.41 digs per game.
Hague, who leaves WSU fourth-highest on the career assists list (2683), had three triple-doubles in 2003. She led the way with 941 assists this season, ninth in the league, to go along with 291 digs.
GVSU's Sabrina Bird was named Player of the Year and Northern Michigan's Jim Moore was named the 2003 GLIAC Volleyball Coach of the Year by his peers.
The Warriors finished the season with a 9-16 overall and 5-12 in the GLIAC.
