MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Elisa Joris, a senior on the Wayne State University volleyball team, was selected to the 2005 Daktronics Division II All-America Second Team, which was selected by a vote from the division's sports information directors. Earlier this week, Joris was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) 25th annual All-America Honorable Mention team. She becomes the second All-America volleyball player in school history (Rachel Parham, 1987), but first by the Daktronics-sponsored team which began in 2000.
Joris, a First Team All-Great Lakes Region selection by the AVCA and Daktronics, Inc., led the conference and ranked second in the nation in blocks at 1.79 per game. Joris was also selected the GLIAC Player of the Week three times throughout the season and had two triple-doubles (20 kills, 10 block, 10 digs at Findlay; 17 kills, 13 blocks, 12 digs vs. Northern Michigan).
Joris also ranked fourth in kills in the conference at 4.22 and had 11 double-doubles in 26 matches while helping the Warriors to their first GLIAC Tournament appearance since 1999.
The 6-foot-2 middle blocker is three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players on the seven-member Second Team (Tracey Kirk-Grand Valley and Gorana Maricic - Northwood).
The All-America team is sponsored by Brookings, S.D.-based Daktronics, Inc. an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
