Northville, Mich. - The Wayne State University women's cross country squad placed second out of eight colleges in the 17th annual Detroit Titan Cross Country Invitational held on September 6 at Cass-Benton Park in Northville, Michigan.
Bucknell had 37 points to edge WSU (44 points). Trailing the Warriors were Oakland University (78), Eastern Michigan (91), Detroit (159), Canisius (167), Macomb (179) and Schoolcraft (218).
Leading the Warriors on the 5,000-meter course was senior Amy Averill (Detroit, Mich./Southfield Christian), who placed seventh in a time of 19:01.
WSU had runners place ninth through 12th. Freshman Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) was ninth (19:11), sophomore Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) was 10th (19:12), senior Rachel Campbell (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) was 11th (19:13), and freshman Faith Kejbou (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) was 12th (19:15).
Also running for Wayne State were Renee Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo), who placed 18th (19:38), sophomore Stephanie Sayler (Romeo, Mich.), who placed 25th (20:05), senior Ruth Minnick (Sterling Hts., Mich./Stevenson), who placed 28th (20:22), sophomore Michelle Kinkela (Sterling Hts., Mich./Stevenson), who placed 30th (20:29) and freshman Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy Collegiate Institute), who placed 35th (20:49).
The Warriors next meet will be the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational on September 20th in Kenosha, Wisc.
