DETROIT - The Wayne State University women's cross country squad took second place at the 2004 Running Fit-Detroit Titan Cross Country Invitational held on Sept. 11 at Cass-Benton Park in Northville.

Bucknell won the team title with 37 points, while the Warriors had 45 points. Detroit was third at 102 points, with Oakland University placing fourth with 107 points. Eastern Michigan (124), Macomb Community College (182), Schoolcraft College (199), Niagara (212), Canisius (219) and Concordia (311) rounded out the 10-team field.

WSU junior Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) won the 5000m race in a time of 18:33, while sophomore teammate Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) was second at 18:51.

Sophomore Faith Kejbou (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) placed ninth (19:19), while Stephanie Sayler (Romeo, Mich.) was 17th (19:41). Also running well for the Warriors were Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy C.I.), who was 19th (19:49) and Meghan Wafer (Redford, Mich./Thurston), who placed 20th (19:52).

Also competing for WSU were Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich.), who finished 34th (20:21) and Renee Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo), who had a time of 21:57 for 58th place.
