Kenosha, Wisc. - Junior Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ont/Holy Names) captured her second consecutive title posting a time of 17:39 in the 5000m run at the Midwest Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course Saturday afternoon. As a team, Wayne State finished fourth out of 21 teams with 117 points. Marquette University took first place team honors with 42 points.
Rounding out WSU's top finishers were graduate student Tracy Egnatuk (Albion, Mich./Albion (Michigan) who placed 20th with a time of 18:51 followed by freshman Lauren Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) in 30th place at 19:06. Freshman Brittany Colley (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) also came in 40th (19:22) with senior Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) right behind her in 41st place (19:22).
The team will resume action in two weeks at the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday Sept. 29 at Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. The event is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am.
