Oshkosh, Wis. - The 16th-ranked Wayne State women's cross country team placed fourth out of 20 teams at the 2004 Midwest Collegiate Open 5000-meter run held at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday, September 18.

Edinboro won the team title with 41 points, followed by Loyola-University 56 points, Wisconsin-Oshkosh 91 points, and Wayne State with 104 points.

Leading the way for the Warriors was junior Melissa Moncion (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) with a fifth-place finish in a time of 18:16.

Sophomore Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) finished in tenth place with a time of 18:40. Sophomore Faith Kejbou (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) finished in 25th with a time of 19:21.

Sophomore Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy Collegiate Institute) finished 31st in a time of 19:40 ahead of teammate Stephanie Sayler (Romeo, Mich./Romeo), who finished in 33rd place in a time of 19:46.

Freshman Meghan Wafer (Redford, Mich./Thurston) finished in 42nd with a time of 19:58, while classmate Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) finished in 52nd place in a time of 20:15.

The Warriors will run in the Cross Country Only Nationals on September 25, in Edwardsville, Ill.
