Louisville, Ky. - Junior Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ont/Holy Names) once again led the way for the Wayne State women's cross country team finishing third out of 239 runners with a time of 17:20.82 in the 5k run at the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic held at the Tom Sawyer State Park Saturday morning. As a team, Wayne State finished 10th out of 28 teams with 290 points. The University of Kentucky took first place team honors with 55 points.
In addition to Malette, WSU had three other runners finish in the top 100 of the field. Freshman Lauren Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) was the Warriors' next top finisher in 59th place with a time 18:50.36 followed by graduate student Tracy Egnatuk (Albion, Mich./Albion (Michigan) who placed 68th at 19:01.97. Freshman Allison Wykle (Trenton, Mich./Trenton) came in 90th (19:18.70) and with senior Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) right behind her in 94th place (19:21.29).
The team will compete at the Michigan Intercollegiate Friday Oct. 4 at Katke-Cousins Golf Course in Rochester, Mich. The event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
