Lewisburg, Pa. - The Wayne State University women's cross country team placed third out of 11 schools at the 2004 Gulden Invitational hosted by Bucknell University Friday evening. The 6k race was run in Lewisburg, Pa.
Navy claimed first place with 60 points, while Bucknell was second with 62. The Warriors were third with 91 points, and were followed by Lafayette (125), Indiana, Pa. (127), Bloomsburg (146), Lehigh (159), Clarion (163), Army (258), Lock Haven (296), and Mt. St. Mary's (343).
Junior Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) finished second in a time of 22:35.34, while sophomore Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) placed sixth in a time of 22:63.66.
Also running well for WSU were sophomore Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy C.I.), who placed 11th (23:27.64) and freshman Meghan Wafer (Redford, Mich./Thurston), who placed 33rd in a time of 24:14.53.
Sophomore Faith Kejbou (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) was 53rd (24:53.15) while freshman Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich.) was 75th (25:35.87).
The Gulden Invitational was a late add this week to WSU's schedule after the Lock Haven Invitational scheduled for Saturday was cancelled.
