HUDSONVILLE, Mich. - A pair of sophomores helped the Wayne State women's cross country squad to a third-place finish in the 6k Michigan Intercollegiate held at the Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville Friday afternoon. Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) was the race runner-up with her second-best time of 22:24 as Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy) finished in eighth place with a 6k personal-best time of 23:05.

Wayne State totaled 117 points as Ferris State won the team title with 59 points and Grand Valley was second with 74.

Two more underclassmen also did their part Friday. Freshman Meghan Wafer (Redford, Mich./Thurston) was 28th overall with a time of 24:06 as classmate Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich.) ran a 46th-place time of 25:02. Renee Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) snuck in the standings at 33rd place (24:16).

The Warriors are off until the GLIAC Championship, at the same location, on Oct. 23.
