HUDSONVILLE, Mich. - The Wayne State women's cross country team ran to a sixth place finish in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the 6k Rolling Hills Golf Course race in Hudsonville, Mich. on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Grand Valley won the championship with 31 points and was followed by Northern Michigan (87), Ferris State (95), Hillsdale (112), Ashland (122) and Wayne State with 150 points.

Junior Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) was the top Warrior finisher placing 13th in a time of 22:56.6. Sophomore Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy CI) finished a spot behind in a personal-best time of 22:58.9.

Freshman Meghan Wafer's (Redford, Mich./Thurston) time of 23:44.1 was good for 32nd place, while teammate Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Macomb Dakota) finished 41st (24:00.0).

Junior Stephanie Sayler (Romeo, Mich.) finished 48th (24:37.2). Renee Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) placed 56th in a time of 24:28.9. Freshman Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich.) crossed the line in 66th place (24:59.8) to wrap up the team scoring for WSU.

The Warriors will return to race action on Saturday, Nov. 6 when they travel to Edwardsville, Ill., for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional.
