Women Runners Place Third At GLIAC's

BIG RAPIS, Mich. - Wayne State's women's cross country team placed in third at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Katke Golf Course, hosted by Ferris State University. Grand Valley captured the team title with 27 points as NMU was second with 96 and WSU finished with 99 points.

Warrior freshman Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) paced the team with a fifth-place finish in a time of 22:28.4 (a new personal best). For her efforts, Culbertson was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year and earned First Team All-GLIAC honors.

Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) finished the 6k-race in a time of 22:31.2 in eighth place as she named to the All-GLIAC second team.

Senior Amy Averill (Detroit, Mich./Southfield Christian) placed 17th in 22:48.3, while WSU freshman Faith Kejbou (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) finished in 31st place in her first conference race in a time of 23:06.1.

Senior Rachel Campbell (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) wrapped up the WSU scoring in 38th place (23:18.9).

The Warriors now prepare for the Great Lakes Regional Championship on Nov. 8 in Grand Rapids.
