Kenosha, Wisc. - The Wayne State women's cross country team finished tied for ninth place out of 24 teams at the NCAA Regional on Saturday, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. The Warriors will not advance to the NCAA Championship, as a team, but will have representation as sophomore Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ontario) qualified for Nationals. The top five runners qualify for the championship.
Malette led the Warriors with a fourth-place finish. She was the only Warrior to finish in the top-20, as senior Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ontario/Kennedy C.I.) came in 25th place.
Rounding out the pack was freshman Tracy Egnatuk (Albion, Mich./Albion Senior) (62nd), sophomore Danielle Malone (Canton, Mich./Salem) (68th), redshirt-senior Sarah Kearfott (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) (111th), senior Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) (117th), and junior Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich./Ionia) (119th).
With her fourth-place finish, Malette was also named First Team All-Region.
The NCAA Championships will take place on Saturday, November 18, at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola, Fla.
