BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - The WSU women's cross country team had its season come to an end as it totaled 217 points to finish in eighth place out of 22 teams at the 2005 NCAA Great Lakes Regional held at Ferris State's Katke Golf Course Saturday, Nov. 5.

Freshman Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) was the Warriors' top runner, finishing in 17th place with a time of 22:37.7. Junior Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota) wasn't far behind in 23rd place at 22:55.6.

Senior Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) finished her career with a 35th-place showing (23:17.2), while junior Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy) completed the course in a time of 23:33.0 for 43rd place. Freshman Laura Friedman (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem) was the fifth scorer for WSU in 99th place (25:16.5).

Other Warrior runners included junior Sarah Kearfott (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) (25:54.4; 115th) and sophomore Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich.) (26:12.6; 123rd).

Grand Valley won the team title with 29 points while Wisconsin-Parkside, Southern Indiana and Northern Michigan all qualified for nationals on Nov. 19 in Chino, Calif.
