WSU Women Qualify For Second Straight Nationals

HUDSONVILLE, Mich. - The Warrior women's cross country team tallied 141 points to finish in fourth place at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet and qualify for the 2003 NCAA nationals in Cary, N.C., on Nov. 22. Grand Valley State won the women's race with 35 points and was followed by Northern Michigan with 82 points and Southern Indiana with 96 points.

Freshman Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota), the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, led the Warriors with a 13th-place time of 22:30.6. Culbertson earned All-Great Lakes Region honors for her efforts. Senior Amy Averill (Detroit, Mich./Southfield Christian) ran a time of 22:47.9 to finish 21st overall and Melissa Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) came in 23rd place (22:52.0).

WSU rookie Faith Kejbou (Warren, Mich./Fitzgerald) ran the Rolling Hills Golf Course route in 23:00.4 to finish 31st and Renee Moncion (Washington, Mich./Romeo) rounded out the WSU scoring with a 53rd-place time of 23:37.9.

"I could not have asked for a better effort out of either team. This was a tremendous day for our kids and our program," said head coach Rick Cummins.
