Pensacola, Fla. - Wayne State sophomore Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ontario/Holy Names) came in 14th out of 187 runners in the NCAA Championship on Saturday, Nov. 18, in Pensacola, Fla. Her placement earned her All-American honors.

The 14th placement marks the second-best female performance for Wayne State. Shelley Vickery holds that top spot when she came in 12th place in 2002.

Head coach Rick Cummins had this to say about his team: "Another solid day for Wayne State at the NCAA championships. Our guys got off the line a little slow and put themselves behind a bit but rebounded and finished strong. Chris worked his way to All-American honors, joining Nick Allen as a two-time All-American. Rachelle got out very aggressively and was awesome. She ran tough and never looked back. She did what we asked and ran hard at the start. She was rewarded for her faith in the system and the plan with All-American honors. This is the 3rd top eight finish for our men, which means that we get another bid for nationals next year, so that is nice. Our guys finished off a very good season as a team. It is safe to say that it was a great day for Wayne State Cross Country."
