Six Women's Cross Country Runners Named To GLIAC All-Academic Team

Six members of the 2006 Wayne State women's cross country team were named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) All-Academic team. The Warriors placed seventh at the league championship and tied-for-ninth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional this season.

To be eligible for GLIAC All-Academic status, a student athlete must have: a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or greater (on a 4.0 scale); must be a starter or key reserve; and must not be a freshman or first-year transfer.

Selected to the GLIAC All-Academic team were seniors Jenni Culbertson (Clinton Twp., Mich./Dakota), Sarah Kearfott (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and Leah Steinke (Windsor, Ont./Kennedy C.I.), junior Kara Kessler (Ionia, Mich.), and sophomores Rachelle Malette (Windsor, Ont./Holy Names) and Teresa Sabin (Lowell, Mich./Saranac).

Culbertson and Steinke were honored for the third time in their careers, while Kearfott (a transfer from Schoolcraft C.C.) and Kessler were named for the second year in a row. Malette, an All-American after placing 14th at the NCAA Championship meet, and Sabin were eligible for the first time this season.
